Egypt has drawn artists to its wonderful monuments for several centuries. From the earliest explorers and archaeologists to professional artists such as David Roberts, the temples and landscapes of Egypt have provided inspiration for their work. Paint Egypt will give you the opportunity to follow in their footsteps, maybe even to painting a modern version of their originals.
Paint Egypt is based in Luxor, on the west bank of the Nile. For several hundred years, it was known as Waset, the capital city of Egypt's vast empire, and even after the capital moved north, it was one of the most important religious centres of Egypt, with the vast temple complex of Karnak and the smaller, but no less beautiful temple of Luxor. Pharaohs built their mortuary temples there on the west bank and were buried in the famed Valley of the Kings. Within easy reach of Luxor are such sites as Edfu, Kom Ombo, Dendera and Abydos, with their differing architectural styles.
Our 14 day painting holiday is for beginners and experienced artists alike. We will paint in temples, in villages, by the Nile, in the countryside and the spectacular desert landscape. Although we offer a structured itinerary, we will be pleased to personalise it to your individual requirements if required. The first week will be structured, with 3 free days for you to do whatever you want, and the second week will be less so, giving you the opportunity to suggest locations for the painting days.
The Nile Valley Hotel, where we will be staying on a bed and breakfast basis, is a well established hotel on the West Bank - a friendly, informal hotel with a pool, under Dutch and Egyptian management and an efficient and friendly staff.
It is close to all local amenities and the ferry to Luxor, as well as being within easy reach of the temples and other monuments of the Theban Necropolis. It is an ideal base for your painting holiday in Egypt. Your holiday price will include 4 dinners at the hotel, where we can all get together and discuss our experiences.
